Christopher Eccleston announced as patron for Bournemouth International Film Festival

ACCLAIMED former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston has been named a patron for the Bournemouth International Film Festival (BIFF).

With a career spanning over three decades across television, film and theatre, Christopher Eccleston is one of the UK's most respected and recognisable acting talents.

His work in Our Friends in the North, Shallow Grave, The Leftovers, The A Word and as the Ninth Doctor in Doctor Who has earned him widespread critical acclaim and a place in the hearts of audiences across generations.

The festival is taking place at the Hilton Bournemouth from October 3 to 4.

BIFF 2025 will feature screenings across genre and form, industry-led panels and workshops, a black-tie awards night, and a strong emphasis on first-time filmmakers and new voices.

The festival is a not-for-profit initiative designed to empower emerging talent and build creative opportunities for communities across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and beyond.

Festival director Steve McCarten said: "Christopher's support sends a powerful message about the role of regional festivals in shaping the future of British storytelling.

"His work consistently champions bold, socially conscious narratives and that aligns perfectly with what we're building at BIFF."

The actor joins a growing roster of supporters and collaborators, including the BFI, Creative England, Arts University Bournemouth, Chine Financial, My Little Teddy, Adventure Attractions, and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
