TV“True Detective: Night Country” Cast Grows to Include Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw and More

https://bloody-disgusting.com/tv/3733410/true-detective-night-country-cast-grows-to-include-christopher-eccleston-fiona-shaw-and-more/

"True Detective" is coming back to HBO for an upcoming fourth season with "True Detective: Night Country," and Deadline brings us more casting news this week.

John Hawkes (Deadwood, Winter's Bone), Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve)Finn Bennett (Domina) and Anna Lambe (Three Pines) have been set as leads, joining the previously announced Jodie Foster and boxer/actor Kali Reis.

Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid) is on board to write the brand new season.

Deadline details, "The series is centered around Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro who are looking to solve the case of six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanishing without a trace, when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska.

"The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

Barry Jenkins ("The Underground Railroad") is producing Season 4.

This will be the show's first season without creator Nic Pizzolatto. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson return as executive producers, with Foster also exec producing.

"True Detective" premiered on HBO back in 2014, with the stellar first season being followed by second and third seasons that didn't quite garner the same acclaim as that initial outing.

Christopher Eccleston: Star on 'difficult' mental health battle - 'like being in hell'

Doctor

Christopher Eccleston

https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/1641919/christopher-eccleston-health-anorexia-depression-symptoms

FORMER Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston has revealed his involvement in the 60th anniversary season of the show. Albeit not appearing on television, the star will feature in a special audio drama. Having first left his role as the infamous timelord after only one series, it was reported that the star did not enjoy its environment or culture. And away from the show, Eccelston's problems kept developing as he revealed back in 2020.

Ever since his breakdown, the actor admitted that he is "much easier on himself" but still doesn't watch any of his performances as it is in his nature to be "very critical" about his physical appearance.

He added: "I'm male and northern and from a working-class background, so you were not supposed to speak about your feelings.

Christopher Eccleston

"I still carry all the baggage about masculinity and toughness, and I was ashamed about my depression and eating disorder."

Although the actor experienced both depression and anorexia at different times in his life, studies show that a high percentage of people with an eating disorder will experience depression.

One study of over 2,400 females in inpatient treatment for eating disorders found that 94 percent of patients evidenced comorbid mood disorders, largely unipolar depression.

Both of the conditions can act as a trigger for the other. For instance an undernourished body can cause changes in the brain that affect mood just as having low-self esteem or a poor body image can trigger depression and anxiety. However, it is still important that individuals recognise the difference between each condition and recognise important symptoms so they can seek medical help.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, (DSM-5), there are three primary features of anorexia nervosa: persistent food restriction, intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, or persistent behaviour that interferes with weight gain.

In addition to this, the physical signs and symptoms of anorexia can include:

  • Extreme weight loss
  • Abnormal blood counts
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Discoloration of the fingers
  • Thinning or brittle hair
  • Absence of menstruation
  • Insomnia.

Depression is characterised by a prolonged period of time where individuals have a depressed mood for most of the day nearly every day or lose interest or pleasure in all activities.
Other potential symptoms, which can be triggered by specific events or due to a family history of the condition, include:

  • Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain and changes in appetite
  • Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
  • Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt.
  • Impaired ability to think or concentrate, and/or indecisiveness.

ECCLESTON CALLS MULTI-DOCTOR STORIES A “CASH-IN”, “IF YOU WANT ME BACK, GET ME ON MY OWN”

It looks as though if Christopher Eccleston were to return for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary next year as per recent rumours, it would have to be a standalone special with no other Doctors.

Asked at a Supanova Q&A panel this weekend if there are any Doctors he'd like to collaborate with, he replied: "I've never been a fan of multi-Doctor stories."

He elaborated: "When I worked on the series, I had really strong ideas about what works and what doesn't, and I always think that multi-Doctor stories are a bit of a cash-in, and a bit of exploitation.

"Creatively, they never worked for me. I looked at the script for the 50th anniversary and I felt as soon as I said I wasn't doing it got better because, well, if i'm not in it, it's better.

"But the creation of the War Doctor introduced a whole new facet to the canon. I know it made some people anxious, the fundamentalists, but, no. I mean, the father of us all is William Hartnell, but the greatest Doctor is Jodie Whitaker."

He concluded: "The Ninth Doctor, in particular, is a one-man band. Definitely. So he doesn't work with other Doctors. If you want me back, you'd get me on my own."

It's an interesting attitude change from Eccleston. In 2020, he said he would return to the TV show "only when hell freezes over". However, a big hurdle still is whether his working relationship with Russell T Davies can be repaired.

Christopher Eccleston: I never thought anyone would cast me in a comedy

The actor stars in the upcoming BBC series Dodger, which will air on CBBC.

Christopher Eccleston has said as a young actor he took himself "far, far too seriously".

The former Doctor Who and Our Friends In The North actor, 57, stars in CBBC's upcoming Dickens drama, Dodger.

He plays criminal organiser Fagin in the series, which is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.

Asked about his iteration of Fagin, who is "funny" in the series, and whether he prefers comedic roles of late, he told Radio Times: "As I've gone through life, my view has definitely become tragicomic.

"As a young actor, in my pursuit of the Oscar and Baftas and all that, I thought what I had to be was serious. And I took myself far, far too seriously.

"I thought that great acting was straight acting. I now think the opposite.

"I talked about Rhys (Thomas) and Lucy (Montgomery) already but they gave me the opportunity to do comedy with (BBC4 mockumentary) Brian Pern and I'm forever grateful.

"Because I am the most miserable man in British television, as you know. I never thought anyone would cast me in a comedy."

He said his children, Albert and Esme, are not fans of him doing accents, as they "just want me to be dad".

BRISTOL FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS AN AUDIENCE WITH CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON

BRISTOL FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS AN AUDIENCE WITH CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON

By ROBIN ASKEW, Friday Jan 21, 2022

Renowned for his collaborations with Danny Boyle and Michael Winterbottom, and fondly remembered as the ninth incarnation of Doctor Who, stage and screen star Christopher Eccleston's distinguished career stretches back more than 30 years to his memorable debut performance as Derek Bentley in Let Him Have It.

He's coming to Bristol to launch Bristol Film Festival's March season with a special Audience with Christopher Eccleston event at the Redgrave Theatre. Eccleston will be in conversation with film critic Anna Smith, and the event also includes a screening of a film he's selected as being of particular importance to him: Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. This will be followed by an audience Q&A session. The event takes place on March 1. Tickets are available here.
