Pivot has set Jan. 29 as the premiere date for “Fortitude,” the cabler’s first scripted drama.

Starring Stanley Tucci as an expert forensic detective, the Arctic-set psychological thriller explores the small town of Fortitude, as mystery and suspicious grows after a brutal and shocking murder.

The entry into edgy scripted drama territory is a big priority for Pivot, the indie cabler owned by Participant Media that launched in 2013.

“Fortitude” is a co-production with Sky Atlantic and was filmed in Iceland and the U.K. The cast also features Michael Gambon, Richard Dormer, Christopher Eccleston, Sofie Gråbøl, Jessica Raine, Luke Treadaway, Nicholas Pinnock, Verónica Echegui and Johnny Harris.

“Fortitude” will open with a special two-hour episode.

Virginia’s note: Possibly will be the same date for the UK premier too.

Who’s that at Askham?

TELEVISION and film star Christopher Eccleston visited the Queens Head, Askham, while in the area to film a new series called Safe House.
"He had a bite to eat with us and then made our daughter, Katie Norman, very happy by sitting with her for half an hour and chatting to her about his time as the ninth Dr. Who in 2005. Katie is a huge Dr. Who fan and he just happens to be her favourite doctor," said her father, John, who runs the inn with wife Eileen.
Being born in Salford, Chris is a big Manchester United fan and he returned to the Queens Head later in the day to watch a game on television with some of the locals. "All agreed what a really nice guy he was and that he had time for everyone," added John.
