The former Doctor Who was due to join actress Maxine Peake in an afternoon of prose, poetry, and drama at Peel Hall, at Salford University later this month.
Salford star Christopher Eccleston has bowed out of an event telling the story of the city’s radical history.
The former Doctor Who was due to join actress Maxine Peake in an afternoon of prose, poetry, and drama at Peel Hall, at Salford University later this month.
But actor Eccleston, originally from Ellesmere Park, Eccles, will instead be replaced by The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce.
Joining them, will be actress Maxine Peake and writer Sheila Hancock, of the Friends of Salford’s Working Class Movement Library, which is staging the event.
‘Salford Stories and Radical Readings’ is expected to include work by writers associated with the city including ‘Love on the Dole’ author, Walter Greenwood, Shelagh Delaney, and Coronation Street creator, Tony Warren.
Money raised from the event at 2pm on Sunday November 23rd will go towards the upkeep of the library, which houses one of the most important collections of historical material on working class organisations in the country.
Library manager Lynette Cawthra said: “The Working Class Movement Library is sorry to have to announce that Chistopher Eccleston will not be able to take his place on stage with Maxine Peake and Sheila Hancock.
“He apologises to everyone but has not been able to get out of a revised filming schedule.”
